Your Name Versus Your Brand

At first glance you might be telling yourself, naming versus branding, that’s easy. However, when you really sit down and think about it, you might also begin to tell yourself, wait, aren’t they kind of the same thing? The answer is yes and no. What a clear answer—we know. But, welcome to the world of marketing, where nothing is black and white. Rather, it really just depends.

Brand Management–What is Your Name

A name is your introduction. It’s the first word people say, see, or search. It can spark curiosity, signal personality, and help people remember you. A name is not just anything catchy though. It is something that is meaningful to you and your brand, recognizable, and relevant. Why do you need more than just a name? The name is just the beginning, not the whole story. For example, the business HoneyBook. A warm, approachable, unique name that sparks curiosity and feels non-corporate is perfect for its target audience. Read “What is Your Brand” to understand that the real power comes from not just the name, but the brand as a whole because without the brand, “HoneyBook” could just be a cute idea. With the brand, it becomes a platform creatives trust with the backbone of their business.

Brand Management–What is Your Brand

Your Brand is where the pieces all fold together seamlessly. You hook the audience with your name, and you keep them with your brand. You cannot have a name without a brand and you cannot have a brand without a name. Your Brand is the story, with all the characters, the plot, setting, everything. This looks like your logo, color theme, voice and tone, positioning, values, mission, and customer experience. As mentioned earlier, not everything is black and white. It is possible where your brand and name are the same thing if not very similar. But, the point is that they are recognizable and cohesive in creating your story that is personal to your brand. For example, Harley Davidson. Harley Davidson’s name and brand are closely intertwined, but they both represent different key aspects of the business.

At Fix & Form we taking branding, naming, all of it very seriously. It’s why we exist. We want to breathe life back into businesses, and we cannot do that without paying attention to the details.   • Our Name: You probably guessed it, yes our name is Fix & Form. But where did this name come from? Simply put, we fix existing brands and form new brands. The alliteration provides a memorable and unique touch. Our founder, Anne Gillaspie, wanted something that was two words and included the ampersand symbol. This was a personal preference. She went through hundreds of word combinations and finally landed on “Fix & Form” to take branding back to the basics since it was becoming a buzzword that held mysterious meaning in the eyes of the beholder. To remove mystery in the branding agency, she simplified the concept in the name.   
  • Our Brand: Ironically, our brand encompasses the fact that we are a strategic branding agency. Fix & Form is rooted in transparency and human-centered connections. We are all about creating impactful brands that deliver memorable experiences from the first impression to long-term customer engagement. Our goal is to make sure your brand strategy is not just seen but felt, crafting experiences that are not only memorable, but also build lasting relationships.
